The prime minister’s office said that Liz Truss would have ministerial responsibility with the EU and lead negotiations to resolve problems arising from provisions of the Brexit agreement covering trade with Northern Ireland.

In his resignation letter, Frost expressed a matter about the government’s “current direction of travel.”

“I hope we would move as fast as possible to where we need to get to a lightly regulated, entrepreneurial economy, low tax at the cutting edge of modern science and economic change,” he said.

Frost expressed disillusionment with the Conservative government’s policies on COVID-19 and taxation.

The Mail on Sunday broke the story of his resignation. Last week’s introduction of new pandemic rules triggered Frost’s decision, including requiring people to show proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test to enter clubs and other venues.

In his resignation notice to Johnson, Frost stated the U.K. has to “learn to live with COVID. ..You took a brave decision in July, against considerable opposition, to open up the country again. Sadly, it did not prove irreversible, as I wished, and I believe you did. I hope we could get track soon and not be tempted by the kind of coercive measures we have seen elsewhere.”
