Seoul seems to get on the path to becoming the first major city to enter the metaverse, as per a recent announcement by the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG).
Called for the time being “Metaverse Seoul”, this is to create a virtual communication ecosystem for each area under its jurisdiction. In 3 stages from next year, it would include cultural, tourism, economic, educational, and civic service.
According to the Seoul Vision 2030 plan, it will have a shared 3D virtual world, where all activities will happen using virtual reality augmented.
Nowadays, these platforms have gained popularity as individuals have moved their activities online, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this project, the South Korean capital has already invested KRW 3.9 billion (about €2.8 billion) as a part of the mayor oh Se-hoon’s Seoul Vision 2030 plan.

It aims to form Seoul “A city of being, a global leader, a secure city, and a future emotional city,” the mayor said.
If this becomes true, citizens of Seoul can very soon put on their VR headsets to meet city officers for meetings virtually.
