Infrastructure Canada has announced Toronto lawyer Tim Murphy to replace outgoing WDBA Chairman Dwight Duncan, who announced he is stepping out from the job at the end of this year.

Murphy, who is working with the same law company as Duncan in Toronto, is an experienced lawyer and company director who has spent about six years as one of four members of the executive leadership team of McMillan LLP.

He previously worked as a one-term Toronto area Liberal party MPP in the 1990s; he was hired by Martin as a political advisor and then became his chief of staff in 2003 after Martin was elected as PM. After Martin was defeated in the 2006 election, Murphy joined the McMillan law company.

The bridge authority oversees the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which is scheduled to open for traffic in 2024. Murphy was named to his new position by the federal Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities Dominic LeBlanc.

“I am happy to accept this nomination as chairperson of Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority,” Murphy stated. “The Gordie Howe International Bridge Project spans one of North America’s busiest trade corridors.

“I am looking forward to working with Minister LeBlanc and the entire team at WDBA to ensure the delivery of this critical piece of infrastructure.”

Duncan, a former local MPP and cabinet minister in Windsor, has remained WDBA chairman and was named in late 2015 after PM Justin Trudeau was elected.
