According to the band, Taylor Hawkins, the long-time drummer from the rock band Foo Fighters, dropped dead late Friday.

Hawkins was 50 years old at the time. The group, which issued a brief statement on social media, did not provide a cause of death.

On Friday, the Foo Fighters were scheduled to play at the Estereo Picnic music festival in Bogota, Colombia. The band’s performance and the rest of their South American tour were canceled “due to a very serious medical condition,” according to a statement released by the festival in Spanish.

Hawkins joined Dave Grohl’s band in 1997 after original drummer William Goldsmith left, making him one of the 28-year-old band’s longest-serving members.

Since then, he’s appeared on all eight of Foo Fighters’ albums, providing vocals and other instruments in addition to drums and co-writing some of the songs.

He, as well as the remains of the band, also starred in the horror-comedy “Studio 666,” which was released recently.

Hawkins was born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1972 and grew up in Laguna Beach, California. Before landing his 1st major gig as a drummer for Canadian singer Sass Jordan, he was a member of Sylvia’s small Southern California band.

He then spent the mid-1990s as Alanis Morissette’s touring drummer before being asked to join Foo Fighters by Grohl.

Grohl is dealing with the death of a close bandmate for the second time. When Kurt Cobain died in 1994, Grohl was Nirvana’s drummer.

Hawkins is survived by his three children and wife, Alison.
